Wish it was Sunday!
Thats our fun day....it's just another manic Monday!
Name that tune!
We've had quite a busy weekend after a little martial angst at the renovation. The air may have even turned quite a vile shade of blue? The trouble is, I think I rather complained a little too much about the lack of light and that bloody gas bottle in the middle of the floor, amongst many other things that were getting on my last nerve. As a result, we have sockets in the bedroom and dressing room, he just needs to make them live! The new dishwasher is finally working and the gas bottle is no more. Thank you Mr H!
We do both get a bit fed up of it all, renovations are often just chasing dust around and trying to work out what to do next from a very long list of urgent jobs! This weekend was really quite warm and didn't help our foul (Get it? You will, read on) tempers much!
I'm also now banned from painting for the rest of my entire life! If his mood was low before my recent kitchen painting efforts, it was rather elevated by the time I'd finished, steam coming out of his ears and wot not! I'm beyond very messy apparently and he's livid about floors and furniture not being masked or covered. So I'm in the dog house and will be cleaning up on aisle 6 forever, but he did get his green kitchen, he really hated the pink and black. Can't have everything now can we?
There's never much hope of anything being done in his normal working week, so it's evenings and weekends we are living for, but we still managed to get out and about at this weekend for 'Brocanting', my now favourite past time. I'd really love a holiday, but I am assured it won't be until late October which probably means Christmas 2025 in his language!
Charming.
I bought a duck!
Okay so generally I'm not a fan of Taxidermy, but this handsome quack wasn't my kill or stuff and to put it plainly, he was already dead and discarded more than once, gathering dust in a Brocante the poor wee, clipped winged orphan. I was actually looking for a duck ornament, but instead he and I chatted, made a pact of sorts for his board and lodgings, shook on it and well at least he won't need feeding! Anyway, I promised him an interesting life living in the Duck Green bathroom, he gratefully accepted with no caveats, so he 'Donald Le Duck' (how original Donna) is now obviously a much loved family member, who watches us in the bathroom but never tells! Lol! What goes on in the Duck room, stays there eh Don!
Maybe I'm loosing it a little bit afterall? Don't answer that!
We also bagged two pretty chandeliers, a basket, a lamp stand, a ceiling shade, a Spode set, a couple of pretty dishes...oh and a rattan Armoire. I really shouldn't be let out ever again with a handful of euros! Next time we go to a Brocante he will have had the doors locked against me I'm sure!
Anyway, he bought a Gerry can and a tool that could either be a fairly decent murder weapon or take the nuts off a lorry wheel! I do like a multi use tool don't you? Don't be smutty lol!
He buys the most random stuff, but always buys a couple of tools he didn't know he needed no matter what. If he had a big empty barn, it would be full to bursting, no doubt. He is like a scrap metal man, wanna be haulier/chap that fixes/collects things whilst watching youtube videos of other men fixing and buying things. Yawn. I feel like if we didn't front the road, our front yard would look rather interesting indeed and not because of the flowers!
At least I know where he is!
This Airbnb when finished with will be interesting to say the least. I wanted each room to stand on its own and be a talking point over a dirty martini or three. That means curating each space as they become ready and I'm loving it. I'm sure my son if asked (he won't be) would describe my style as 'Kit Kemp meets Bat Shit Crazy women who spent too much time buying things that don't match' ! I will take it and raise you my stuffed duck love!
So this week is going to be slooooow and the plasterer isn't in till mid month. The decorator, long suffering lovely will be in here and there (well as much as I can get her here) and I've warned her that it will take till Christmas to finish slapping paint everywhere! Bless her. I'm also looking forward to the award of my demerit tomorrow for my painting outside the lines again! She may threaten to leave and I will cry! Pray for me!
So the reno beat bangs on a bit more. We have or should I say, he has, a bit of prep work to do for that this weekend and it's gonna be messy! Drilling out old plaster and such like, yuck! Me? I will be found mainly buying plants, cooking and washing, the stuff of dreams eh?
Talking about dreams.....I would reeeallly love to dry my hair in front of a mirror and so I'm hoping with enough bribery and coruption (your mind went to the right gutter this time lol) I can at least get him to put it up before Apero time on Friday? I've fed him well today, he sits at his desk tapping away and I serve up three square meals with drinks and a smile! I am the Good Wife, or trying to be. I do feel a bit useless to be honest. My lack of DIY skills makes me rather a lame duck (get it?) and so all I can resort to is making things pretty! I guess I'm officially retired!
It is what it is.
Okay I will stop now!
More soon
